Religious Education (Key Stage 4)

 

Year 9

What will pupils study this year?

Throughout the year the students will explore religious beliefs about the existence of God. They will also learn about religious beliefs about prejudice and discrimination. The lessons are taught once a week in a classroom environment. The curriculum works on a carousel with Citizenship, therefore students complete half a year studying Religious Education before rotating to Citizenship.

 Topic 1: Why do people believe in God? 

  • Ultimate questions

  • The Teleological Argument

  • The Cosmological Argument

  • Do we need religious experience to believe in God?

 Summer Term

 Topic 1: Why do people believe in God? 

  • God v Science

  • How does evil and suffering affect our beliefs?

  • What are the characteristics of God?

  • Assessment about the arguments for and against the beliefs about God

 Topic 2: Identity and Discrimination What make up my identity? How do we know a person’s religion?

  • Prejudice and discrimination

  • Religious prejudice

  • Racism

  • How did racism affect South Africa during Apartheid?

 Assessment about the teachings on prejudice and discrimination

 

Year 10

What will pupils study this year?

The lessons are taught once a week in a classroom environment. The curriculum works on a carousel with Citizenship, therefore students complete half a year studying Religious Education before rotating to Citizenship.
