Religious Education (Key Stage 3)

 

Year 7

What will pupils study this year?

Throughout the year the students will explore religious beliefs about the existence of God. They will also learn about key people within several religions. The lessons are taught once a week in a classroom environment through interactive and skills based lessons. The students will be assessed throughout the year to measure their progress in Religious Education.

 

 

 Autumn Term

 Topic 1: The existence of God: Big Questions

 Is there a God? Arguments for and against in;

  • Hinduism

  • Scientific theory

 How was the world made?

  • Christianity
  • Hinduism
  • Religion v Science theory

 Topic 2: Christianity: Who is Jesus?

  • Who was Jesus the man?

  • Biography

  • What did he teach?

 Spring Term

 Topic 3: Sikhism 

  • Who is the Guru Nanak?

  • The Five Ks

  • Beliefs about equality

 Topic 4: Buddhism: 

  • Who is Siddhārtha Gautama?

  • What are the key teachings about Buddhism?

  • What is the Eightfold Path?

 Summer Term

 Carousel with Citizenship 

 For the remainder of the year, RE groups will complete Citizenship lessons.

 

 

Year 8

What will pupils study this year?

Throughout the year the students will explore about how different religious groups express their faith. They will also learn about a range of religious beliefs about how they celebrate their faith, marriage and the journey’s religious people take through their lives. Additionally, they will also look at conflict and how religious groups can help to combat conflict. The lessons are taught once a week in a classroom environment through interactive and skills based lessons.
