Updated - Thursday 13th May 2020 (6.30pm) - Updates in red

If you have a child who is currently in Year 6 and is joining Hathershaw in September, the Principal has recently written to you with some important information.  You might also want to visit the following site for more information and resources https://padlet.com/kdsthc/o1yiidon2h4yk0p2

On Sunday 10th May, the Prime Minister provided an update on plans to unlock the country.  He made reference to the current thinking about the re-opening of schools, possibly starting with primary schools and children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 returning after the May half term holiday.  This is by no means certain and will depend on the situation as this date approaches.  In terms of secondary schools, he made reference to the possibility of students who will take their exams next year, in other words those in Year 10, returning at some point before the end of the academic year, with no date provided and no further information available.

As a result, the College remains closed, apart from those with an EHCP, a social worker or students from families where a parent is a key worker.

If your child has an EHCP, a Social Worker or you are a key worker you may wish to consider sending them to school, please email us at mail@hathershaw.org.uk with the following information:

  • Your child’s name and year group

  • A phone number on which to contact you

  • Your job role and name of employer

Only children whose parents/carers have notified the College in advance may attend school. There is also no need for students to wear uniform if attending.

Collection of email addresses

As per a letter from the Principal that was posted on Monday 20th April, we are in the process of collecting the email addresses of parents.  Please could you use the following link in order that we may update our records https://forms.gle/b4xzpryzoHHwzJ6q9

GCSE Results 2020 update

The Government has now released a statement about how this year's GCSE results will be awarded www.gov.uk/government/news/how-gcses-as-a-levels-will-be-awarded-in-summer-2020.  Mr Giles has sent a letter to parents of  Year 11 students to explain the process.  GCSE results will be published on Thursday 20th August as planned.

Working from home:

All students should be working from home and accessing their work through Google Classrooms.  Your child's teachers are available for help and support by email.  Teachers will do their best to respond between the hours of 9.00am - 3.00pm.  If your child doesn't have access to a computer or is without broadband Internet, please could you notify their Year Manager who will put arrangements in place for a paper-based study pack to be sent in the post.

Later in the week, Year 11 students will receive details of some websites that they might wish to visit to help prepare for their post-16 studies.

The Government have announced a plan for some children to receive laptops, tablets and broadband Internet packages.  We are currently finding out more information on how this scheme will work and who will be eligible.

Vouchers for children in receipt of free school meals will continue to be sent through the post.

Please ensure that your child acts responsibly and, as part of strict social distancing guidelines, does not associate with people who do not live with them either in the community or in other houses.

Many thanks for your on-going support.

Mr Giles

Principal
