60th Anniversary 10K Run
As part of the college’s 60th Anniversary celebrations, 60 staff both past and present ran the Great Manchester Run raising money for charity along the way - over £2000! Teacher Suzi Wiswell, a keen runner, was the inspiration for the idea. Charities to benefit from the run are;
- Dementia Care
- Christies
- Cancer research
- Shelter
- Breast cancer
- Dr Kershaws
- ME
- Gift of a wedding
- Trussell Trust food bank
Staff participated wearing their Diamond Anniversary t-shirts, designed by Aqsa Waheed as part of a competition in Technology for Year 7 and 8 students, to mark the event.
Items from the current school building along with photographs of events to mark the anniversary celebrations will be included in a time capsule for future generations. Full details of our other planned activities can be found on our 60th Celebration page.
All staff finished the race, with some recording excellent times:
Fastest male: Adam Smyth, 42min 54sec
Fastest female: Suzie Wiswell, 53min 13sec
Fastest member of the Senior Leadership Team: Mark Giles, 50min 25sec
Dave McEntee, the College Principal crossed the finish line after an impressive 1hr 01min 40sec
Such was the success of the event, Mrs Wiswell is planning on continuing the running bug by entering other running activities, including Pretty Mudder in July: a 5K assault course and then a half marathon, all with the aim of raising even more money for charity.
