Author Joe Craig to Visit Hathershaw
On March 23rd, we are planning an exciting event for our students. Joe Craig, author of the successful Jimmy Coates series of books has agreed to visit the school to talk to the students about his work.
Joe Craig is a bestselling novelist, screenwriter, songwriter and performer. His award-winning thrillers have earned him a place alongside Anthony Horowitz, Charlie Higson and Robert Muchamore as "one of the best spy kids authors... outstanding at both writing and plotting." (The Times).
His Jimmy Coates books have won over fans across the world and converted thousands of previously reluctant readers with an electric mix of action, suspense and thrilling twists. Packed houses at festivals, bookshops, libraries and schools all over the world have experienced his tall tales, improvised stories, and surprising theories about writing. His shows have enthralled and entertained audiences as much as his books.
He studied Philosophy at Cambridge University then became a songwriter. The success of his books led to a new career writing movies. Now he splits his writing time between novels and film projects.
Joe will be talking to our students about his books, inspiration for their own writing and also enthusing them about the joy of reading. This will support the literacy work that we do in school and we hope it will prove a stimulating experience for all involved.
Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for pupils to buy a book and get it dedicated to them and signed by Joe. A signed book can be a permanent reminder of a special experience and can reinforce the message about the importance of reading. If your child would like to purchase a book, please make sure they bring some money in on the day. The books will cost approx. £7.00. Of course, if your child already owns any of Joe‘s books they can bring those in and he will be happy to sign them.
We are sure you will agree that this is an opportunity not to be missed and the students can look forward to a very exciting day. More information about Joe Craig can be found on his website www.joecraig.co.uk
