Author Visit: Alan Gibbons
Another acclaimed author, Alan Gibbons, visited the school on Thursday 9th June 2016 to speak to Year 7 students in a series of workshops throughout the day (pictures above).
Alan is the latest in a long line of authors to visit the school as part of our literacy programme, to actively encourage young students to read more and inspire them to create their own stories as part of a well-rounded education. Other authors to visit during this school year include Ali Sparkes and Bali Rai, with the latter scheduled to return on 11th July 2016.
Alan Gibbons has been writing children's books for twenty three years. He is the winner of the Blue Peter Book Award 2000 'The book I couldn't put down' for his best-selling book Shadow of the Minotaur, part of The Legendeer series of books which also include Vampyr Legion and Warriors of the Raven. Other books he has written include End Game, The Number 7 Shirt and The Greatest- a sporting title, packed with facts about Muhammad Ali, about a boy who's bike is stolen by a local bully. He then turns to the story of Muhammad Ali for inspiration - the greatest boxer of all time, inspiring the fight of Ali's young life. A brilliant read about standing up to bullies and overcoming the odds.
