Author Visit: Bali Rai
On Monday 11th July 2016, the Author Bali Rai returned to The Hathershaw College for the day to work with students in Year 9 (pictures above). There were two large sessions held over the course of the school day where students got the chance to speak to Bali about his books and being an author, as well as his personal family life and the inspiration behind his writing. Children then explored their own ideas and what their inspiration was, with some things coming as a surprise to even them!
Bali Rai is the author of lots of children’s books, including the award winning Web of Darkness, The Gun and Game On. In 2010, his book Rani & Sukh became a set-text at GCSE, with thousands of children across the UK studying it in great detail.
This is not the first time Bali has been to our school, having visited us earlier in the year and in April 2014, and is the most recent in a long line of authors who have made appearances in the past including Alan Gibbons, Cathy Macphail, Joe Craig and Ali Sparkes. The Authors aim to inspire a new generation of writers and help improve reading and writing throughout the school with their workshops, supporting our Literacy work within school.
More information about Bali Rai can be found on his website www.balirai.co.uk and you can also view our pictures from his visit, above.
