GCSE Results Day 2019

GCSE Results Day 2019

On Thursday 22nd August 2019 it was time for students to collect their GCSE results - and a fantastic set of results they were.

Considering the more challenging courses in both English and Maths, this was welcome news to both staff and students with lots of smiles to be found. Principal, Mark Giles said;

"Whilst it is still very difficult to compare one set of GCSE results with those achieved in previous years because of on-going changes to grade boundaries and some subjects being examined for the first time as reformed GCSEs, I am extremely pleased with what our students have achieved.  They have worked incredibly hard and been extremely well supported by our staff.

I am particularly pleased with results in our core subjects of English, Maths and Science.  Around 70% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in each of these subjects, which will greatly support the progression of these students to college or apprenticeships.  As a result of the progress that students have made, the vast majority are now set to progress to our multi-academy trust partner, Oldham Sixth Form College."

Hundreds of students arrived at 9:30am to find their personally addressed envelopes waiting for them, shedding light on what the years of hard work had in store. Students laughed, cried, hugged and celebrated together for one last time (pictures below, video above) as they all now undertake a different part of their journey through life. There was even an ice-cream van, Becki's Whippy, on hand to allow students to celebrate with a sweet treat, courtesy of The Hathershaw College.
