Year 7 and 8 pupils took to our 3G pitches during the miserable, wet weather on Monday 18th May 2015 in an attempt to break the current Guinness World Record for the most number of participants undertaking sit-ups at the same time - something we call Simultaneous Sit-ups!

The event was organised by the PE faculty as part of our 60th Anniversary celebrations. The current World Record stands at a staggering 414 people performing sit-ups simultaneously for a duration of 1 minute, set in North Carolina , USA, on 5 February 2015.  To try and beat this, The Hathershaw College had 506 participants officially counted into the staging area.  Sit-ups had to be of the correct technique to count, and within an official area marked with cones. Those that fall short of the exacting standards will not count and will see our total drop.

We are eagerly awaiting the decision of the Guinness World Record panel to see if all of our efforts will get the reward they deserve, and we will keep you updated. In the meantime, why not view some pictures of the event, below?

We have lots of events planned for our Diamond Jubilee, details of which can be found on our 60th Anniversary page.
