MP Michael Meacher visits Hathershaw
On Friday 27th March, Hathershaw was visited by Michael Meacher MP who came to discuss politics with our budding Mock Election candidates.
Michael was welcomed by the College Principal, Dave McEntee, and Head of Globalisation, Ms Robbinson and was quickly introduced to our 10 candidates, two for each of the five major political parties, for our own Mock Election - to run alongside the General Election in May 2015.
Our student candidates are busy on the campaign trail and canvassing support around school to succeed in the final vote, and were injected with enthusiasm and interest with the visit of the MP as they questioned him about life as a Member of Parliament, the role of democracy in Britain and his own political views, trying to glean as much information as they could to help them with their own election campaign.
Then the student candidates then had the chance to speak more informally over some lunch, with some honest and open discussion from all involved, benefitting the students as an enriching experience not to be forgotten.
Please see our Mock Election page for more information about the process and the candidates.
