Parliament in Session
In December, Year 10 students were invited to apply to be part of our Mock Local Election initiative for 2016, which was set up last year to run alongside the General Election. Last years' Mock Election was such a success and proved to be an invaluable learning tool to teach students about democracy, we have decided to run it again this year to coincide with Local Elections, and now the candidates have been chosen.
A reward, and some inspiration, for all of the 27 candidates was a trip to Parliament in London to see how democracy can shape our country. This occurred on Monday 1st February 2016 and was an activity that was enjoyed by all (pictures above). Students took in the sights that the capital had to offer along with learning more about how our country is run. As Parliament was in session, students bumped into local Labour MP, Oldham's very own Jim McMahon. Taking time out of his busy schedule, students had lots of questions for Jim and had a real insight into the workings of democracy.
We look forward to seeing who will be triumphant in this years' Mock Local Election, and will keep you updated every step of the way.
