Record Breakers!
Back on Monday 18th May 2015, 506 year 7 and 8 students, along with some of our feeder Primary School pupils, entered our state-of-the-art 3G football pitches to take part in a Guinness World Record attempt for the most people undertaking sit-ups at the same time in one minute. Today we are pleased to announce that we are the current World Record Holders as we beat the record by a massive 89 people!
The event was organised by the PE faculty as part of our 60th Anniversary celebrations. The previous World Record stands at a staggering 414 people performing sit-ups simultaneously, set in North Carolina, USA, on 5th February 2015. To try and beat this, The Hathershaw College had 506 participants officially counted onto the staging area, with 503 successfully completing their sit-ups to the required standard. Sit-ups had to be of the correct technique to count and within an official area marked with cones, all watched by independent officials.
