Romeo and Juliet Performance

 

On March 21st and 29th 2018, all of our year 10 and 11 students watched a live stage performance of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ performed by the Manchester Actors Company. 

The purpose of the  performance was to help students to revise the events and characters of the play prior to their GCSE Literature exam in May. There was also a specific focus on some dramatic devices such as ‘soliloquy’ and ‘dramatic irony’. Our English staff wanted  students to identify these devices in the performances in order to enhance their understanding of Shakespeare’s craft .

Our students greatly enjoyed watching actors bring the characters from the page to life and were particularly entertained by Tybalt’s titillating prose, Mercutio’s manic meanderings and the star-crossed lovers stealing a kiss.
