Two Awards Better than One

Two Awards Better than One

The Hathershaw College has recently received not just one, but TWO awards!

The Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA) status has been awarded until 2021.  We first achieved this back in 2015 and the assessor this year believed our partnership work with parents has gone from strength to strength.  Vice Principal, Mark Giles, who co-ordinated the award firmly believes that one of the reasons the College continues to perform so well is because of the support we receive from parents and carers.

The assessor praised the College website, its use of social media and information packs in Visitor Reception as just some of the ways parents are kept informed about school life.  Parents and students were interviewed as part of the assessment process.  Students described the College as “diverse, supportive and welcoming”, whilst parents praised the level of pastoral support from Year Managers.

We have also been accessed by the Bullying Intervention Group who found us deserving of the BIG award, for the work we do to tackle bullying across the school and the training that staff receive. Assessor and Director of BIG, Val McFarlane, said;

"The Hathershaw College has a wide range of strategies in place to ensure that students can learn in an inclusive and safe environment.  They have a robust and up to date anti-bullying policy, trained peer supporters, trained staff and awareness raising opportunities to name but a few of these strategies.  They have a huge staff training programme, one of the most comprehensive we have ever seen.  I am so pleased that they have now achieved the BIG Award for excellence in challenging bullying."

If you have any ideas about how we can further improve our partnership work with parents, or anti-bullying policy, please let us know. Thank you for your support.
