World Book Day at Hathershaw
On Thursday 3rd March staff and students at The Hathershaw College celebrated World Book Day with many exciting activities taking place across the school.
Readathon
Our English department launched a sponsored read as part of World Book Day, which saw students reading books to raise funds for children in hospital to buy books. It was great fun reading for such a great cause!
Book Fair
A book fair was held in the library throughout world book day. Students poured into the library, during break and lunch where they could choose a book from an array of books in exchange for their world book day token.
In addition, to celebrate reading at Hathershaw, we gave away a limited number of books to students. Students that earnt a Hathershaw book token from their tutors throughout the week, then got to exchange the token for a brand new, free book from a range of books in the fair.
Book cover competition
In the run up to world book day, there were fun activities taking place. Students were able to partake in the book cover competition where they designed a Curtis Jobling book cover. Students had fun engaging in the world book day quiz and showed off their creativity by creating their own book marks.
Author Visit / Workshops
We were honoured to welcome Author/Illustrator, Curtis Jobling to Hathershaw on Monday 7th March for World Book Day. Curtis delivered very engaging and inspirational workshops to students throughout the day, during which he delivered a reading of his novels. As well as had a book signing event during break and lunch.
